Veterinary Council of Tanzania
The Veterinary Council has been established under the Veterinary Act No 16 of 2003. According to this Act the Veterinary Council is responsible for regulation of the performance of veterinary professionals, paraprofessionals and paraprofessional assistants, and for regulation of veterinary practice facilities. The council have a secretariat which is headed by the registrar responsible for facilitation of the following activities for the council:
  1. To effect registration enrollment and enlistment of veterinary professionals, paraprofessionals and paraprofessional assistants,
  2. To monitor the performance of veterinary professionals, paraprofessionals and paraprofessional assistants,
  3. To register and regulate the veterinary practice facilities... 
  4. Coordinate formulation updating and dissemination of guidelines and standards for these practices
  5. To advise and make recommendations to the Minister on any matters related to veterinary practice
  6. To recognize qualifications training facilities training institutions and colleges
  7. To collaborate with other relevant institutions or bodies in accrediting courses of training curriculum, which provide qualifications for registration, enrolment and enlistment of veterinary professional and paraprofessional and paraprofessional assistants
  8. Exercise effective disciplinary control over the professional ethics and conduct of veterinary practice
  9. Arrange and conduct qualifying examinations to establish competence in the veterinary education and practice
  10. To promote and encourage educational advancement with regard to practice of the veterinary profession
